3D/MOTION LENTICULAR CUPS AND CONTAINERS
The Ultimate 3D Cup Designer's Guide

The templates are provided in ZIP archives, each containing Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop files to guide your design. Please pay special attention to the elements of the template, as each area indicates an important function.

The templates will look similar to the image below. To ensure that your art is built correctly, please use these templates. This will ensure you art can be processed with the least amount of revisions.

Live Art Area

Keep all your critical elements (text, logos, etc.) inside this area.

Trim Line

This line is the actual finished edge of the cup design. However, to achieve the 3D effect, and to provide enough "bleed" for die cutting of the lenticular plastic blanks, your background and non-essential art must extend into the bleed area as described below.

Bleed Area

We need your background elements to extend into the bleed area to allow us room to create the 3D depth effects.

If you have any questions about how to use the template, please call us right away. We are more than happy to assist you to create the best possible 3D Lenticular design.

But Cups Are Not Rectangular!

This is true. Ultimate 3D cups are tapered cups. To get the art to look natural on a tapered cup, sometimes the art must be adjusted to compensate for the taper.

Not to worry! Our prepress team will take care of any compensation needed to make your cup look great. Simply prepare your art to the template and we will take it from there.

The Ultimate 3D Cup Layout Tips

Sweet Spot

The sweet spot (best image area) is a column in the very center of the cup running from top to bottom. The width of the sweet spot for the Ultimate 3D 20oz cup is 2-1/4 inches wide and for the 32oz the sweet spot is 3 inches wide.

Design Considerations

As you start your layout, understand that your design will be viewed in sections at a time. Since the final shape is a cylinder, keep your art elements smaller than you may usually do to keep them within the viewing angle. Keep in mind the sweet spot!

Use lots of layered elements on top of a textured, colored background to take advantage of the 3D depth possibilities. Making elements on each layer a different color will also emphasize the depth effect. Objects in the background layers should be smaller than objects in the foreground layers, also to enhance the 3D appearance.

Keep in mind that you are designing for 3D, not for traditional 2D printing. Use wild, bright colors, even if they seem unnatural. The mind will compensate for the unusual colors and see instead the amazing depth! Be creative, step outside reality and explore the infinite possibilities of the 3D Lenticular world.

Your background should be of a different color than your main graphic elements, and we highly recommend the use of texture and contrast to help your design really pop. Taking your time to create a strong background that is not a flat solid color will pay off with a dramatic effect.

Text should always be kept at 10 points or larger, and must be within the live art area on the template to avoid being cut off or disappearing into the cup seam.
